Appointments & Office Visits
We make every effort to meet the needs of our patients by offering preventative well child visits, as well as same-day urgent care appointments when at all possible. Please contact the office to schedule a visit. Appointments are required.
Well Child Visits
Preventive regular well child visits are important to maintain a healthy child. These visits allow us to monitor for growth, developmental, behavioral, emotional, and academic issues so that we can identify them early, intervene, and treat them effectively.
Well baby visits in the first 6-8 weeks are determined by your physician depending on how you and your newborn are doing. For the first 2½ years of life, visits are generally scheduled at the following ages: around 6-8 weeks, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 24 months and 30 months of age per the PCP’s discretion.
Annual well child visits begin at 3 years of age. Schedules are generally available 6 months in advance to schedule these annual appointments. Our goal is to schedule your child for routine well child exam within 90 days of request.
Same-Day Urgent Care Visits
We have triage nurses available by phone during office hours to help you with your child’s acute illness or answer questions on routine childcare and parenting concerns.
If they are unable to answer your question, they will relay the concern to your physician. We take your concerns seriously and strive to respond to you the same day.
If you arrive more than 10 minutes late to a same-day urgent care appointment, we may need to reschedule for a later time.
Missed or Late Appointments
Missed appointments represent a cost to us and to other patients who could have been seen during your appointment time. Our practice reserves the right to charge for missed appointments.
- We request 24 hours or more notice to cancel or reschedule appointments. If your appointment is on a Monday, we ask that you call the Friday before to cancel.
- Several missed appointments may result in dismissal from the practice.
- If you are more than 15 minutes late, it is likely we will need to reschedule your appointment.
After-Hours Care
If your child’s illness or injury is life threatening, dial 911. Otherwise, for urgent matters that cannot wait until business hours, call our office to speak to our answering service and leave a message for our on-call physician, who will call you back. It may take up to 30 minutes for the physician to return your call.
A physician is on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.
Emergency Care
If you live in Chittenden County and your child requires transport to an emergency department, the receiving hospital will be the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC). Patients living outside of Chittenden County will be assessed by the responding emergency medical personnel and they will inform you of the hospital they will transport your child to.

It is Your Responsibility
- To know the limits and coverage of your particular health insurance policy.
- To show your insurance cards to us at each visit.
- To pay any copays at the time of service.
Our billing staff will do their best to assist you with insurance questions; however, if you have questions about your coverage, it is best to check with your specific insurance company.
Billing Policies
- If you have coverage with a company that we do not have a contract with, you are responsible for payment at the time of service. It will be your responsibility to submit your claim to that insurance company.
- If you do not have insurance, you will be billed directly for payment of services. We accept checks, cash and most credit cards.
- If you would like to set up a payment plan, please contact our billing office at 800-530-1140.
- If you are a custodial parent, by law you are ultimately responsible for payment of your child’s medical bills, even if you are not the carrier of your child’s insurance policy. Bills will be sent to you.
- We understand there are times when extenuating circumstances cause financial hardship. If this occurs, please call our billing office to discuss a payment arrangement.
Vaccines save lives.
We believe that all children should receive the recommended vaccines according to the guidelines provided by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control. Vaccines are safe and effective in preventing diseases and health complications in children and young adults. Regular vaccinations help children ward off infections, and are administered as one of the safest and best methods of disease prevention.
Pediatric Medicine is authorized by the Vermont Department of Health as a Vaccines for Children office. The physicians of Pediatric Medicine adhere to the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Advisory Committee of Immunization Practices.
Your physician will discuss the routine immunization schedule with you at your well child visit. If you would like a copy of the Recommended Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule or any Vaccine Information Sheets, please ask your nurse or provider.

Prescription Refills
Call our office to speak to the triage nurse for a prescription refill or make a request through the patient portal.
- We ask that you give our triage nurses 48 hours notice for all prescription refills.
- Requests for refills are accepted Monday through Friday during our regular business hours.
- In most situations we are able to e-prescribe your medication or refill.
If your child is prescribed a controlled substance, we are now able to electronically send that prescription to the pharmacy of your choice. Please allow at least 48 hours for the prescription to be filled. You may call a week in advance for the prescription refill. There may be times when a paper prescription is still needed. ID will be required upon pick up.
